-- What Does the Board Do?

The IVRPA Board of Directors (BoD) is legally responsible for operation of this non-profit corporation. It makes policy and decides on budgetary matters.

Directors are expected to act individually and as a group as leaders in the VR photography community, promoting its interests through this organization. This includes special projects such as conferences and exhibitions, and ongoing work through the website, publications, and meetings.

The BoD meets once a month via video conference for one hour to reach conclusions and take action. Discussion leading up to the meetings is primarily conducted on-line.

-- Why Should I Serve on the BoD?

The IVRPA is an international organization representing professionals in the field of VR panoramas and related technologies. The membership includes photographers, programmers, producers, entrepreneurs, and educators, as well as enthusiasts at all levels. As the only organization dedicated to this specialty it represents and promotes the field and its practitioners to the public.

As a director your time commitment will be at least a few hours per week, attending meetings and participating in discussion. But that may expand significantly depending on your level of involvement in projects such as conferences, exhibitions, the website, members meetings, newsletter and other publications, and special projects such as the patent challenge.

Over the years, many members have served in the IVRPA Board of Directors as volunteers. This is your opportunity to give back to the community, please consider running for the BoD, we need your help to steer the IVRPA in the next two years.

FAQ: Why only three seats of the BoD are up for election this year?

The answer is on the IVRPA Bylaws: http://ivrpa.org/about/ivrpa-bylaws

"Section 5. Term of Office

Each director shall hold office for a period of two calendar years and until his or
her successor is elected and qualifies. Terms of office shall be staggered so that
either three or four directors stand for election each year.

In the first year of elections for two year terms (December 2009) the three
candidates winning the largest number of votes will be deemed to have been
elected for a two year term and the four candidates with the next highest number
of votes will be deemed to have been elected for a one year term. At the second
annual election the offices that had been filled for one year terms will be opened
for election to two year terms."
