A year that was very vivid for everyone involved in the "VR" community has almost passed, and as every year we encourage the members of the IVRPA to volunteer to be part of the IVRPA Board of Directors.

This year five seats on the IVRPA Board of Directors will be up for election.

Three directors, elected in 2012, finishing their terms in 2014: Jürgen Schrader, Willy Kaemena and Fung Yu.

Two directors who have taken vacant seats during the recent term and who, according to our bylaws, held office until this new election: Gavin D. Farell, Richard Broo.

The new elect directors will serve two year terms starting January 1, 2015 and finishing December 31, 2016.

To run for one of these seats, log on to the IVRPA website and post your statement of candidacy on the members forum:

Statements may be posted from November 26th, 2014, until December 9th, 2014.

On-line voting for the Board will commence on December 10th, 2014 and close December 24th, 2014 at 24.00 UTC. The five candidates who receive the most votes will be elected to the board. New board members will officially begin on January 1, 2014.

-- What Does the Board Do?

The IVRPA Board of Directors (BoD) is legally responsible for operation of this non-profit corporation. It makes policy and decides on budgetary matters.

Directors are expected to act individually and as a group, as leaders in the VR photography community, promoting its interests through this organization. This includes special projects such as conferences and exhibitions, and ongoing work through the website, publications, and meetings.

The BoD meets on demand via online chat for one hour to reach conclusions and take action. Discussions leading up to the meetings are conducted online.

-- Why Should You Serve on the BoD?

The IVRPA is an international organization representing professionals in the field of VR panoramas and related technologies. The membership includes photographers, videographers, programmers, producers, entrepreneurs, and educators, as well as enthusiasts at all levels. As the only organization dedicated to this specialty it represents and promotes the field and its practitioners to the public. With the recent growth especially in the fields of 360 video there is a growing recognition and a growing demand to represent and communicate what we are doing.

As a director your time commitment will be at least a few hours per week, attending meetings and participating in discussion. But that may expand significantly depending on your level of involvement in projects. Projects that you may of course also develop out of your own dedication and commitment.

Over the years, many well known and best reputed members have served on the IVRPA Board of Directors as volunteers. This is your opportunity to give back to the community, please consider running for the BoD, we need your help to keep the IVRPA on top of the wave.

If you have any questions regarding the election, your candidacy or the IVRPA at all, feel free to contact me or any of the other directors at any time.

On behalf of the IVRPA board of directors,
Jürgen Schrader - President of the IVRPA
